This three-part winter series scheduled for January, February and March, invites you into a gentle, progressive exploration of the 21 Wuji Postures (Zhan Zhuang 站樁 – “post standing”), a profound system of standing Ch’an (Zen) Qigong often described as “postures of power.” Simple, still, and deeply transformative, this practice is designed to cultivate vitality, inner balance, and quiet strength, helping us place more life in our years—and more years in our life.
Each monthly session builds upon the previous one, guiding participants deeper into the Wuji state of stillness, relaxation, and intentional energy cultivation—an ideal rhythm for the winter season.
Through this series, Jesse will present perspectives, principles, and practical approaches designed to help students enjoyably deepen their relationship with the practice—“making friends” with the Wuji postures rather than forcing or striving. The teachings unfold organically, allowing time between sessions for practice, embodiment, and integration.
Jesse first learned this 21 Wuji Posture Sequence directly from Grandmaster Fred Villari in 1999 and has practiced and taught these standing meditations for over 25 years, shaped as well by many years of learning and shared insights with Judan John Fritz. Students often describe the practice as grounding, calming, energizing, and quietly powerful.
Grandmaster Villari taught that these postures open the chakras and meridians naturally, without force. Through relaxation, intention, and the state of “nothingness,” stagnant energy is released, fresh energy is drawn in, and Yin and Yang are brought back into harmony. This series offers a rare opportunity to explore this system in depth, with time between sessions to practice and embody the teachings.

Wuji: The Ground of All Practice
Wuji translates as “ultimate nothingness,” “void,” “spaciousness,” or “formless emptiness.” In Taoist metaphysics and cosmology, Wuji represents the infinite, undifferentiated field that precedes creation—the mystery from which all things arise and to which all things ultimately return.
From nothing → something → back to nothing.
Experientially, Wuji can be entered as a meditative, interdimensional state of profound relaxation, quietude, and openness—spacious, calm, and filled with latent possibility. Through Wuji posture training, practitioners gently dissolve obstructions to the natural flow of power while cultivating strength, stability, and peaceful quiescence. As Grandmaster Villari taught, “Don’t worry about how it happens. It’s nature.” When the body relaxes and the mind rests in “nothingness,” the energy flows where it is needed most.
Wuji postural training forms the foundation of all meditative practices, supporting healing, clear thinking, emotional balance, inner strength, and a deep sense of well-being.
As Judan John Fritz once beautifully expressed:
“There are no contraindications to the Wuji. They can be done by anyone, any time, and always promote harmony. It won’t mess anyone up—only set them free. That feels good.”
